It all started when Tara, our founder, realised she didn’t love tea or coffee – but she did love chocolate! That simple craving for comfort turned into a deeper calling: to craft something indulgent that also stood for something meaningful.

Combining her love of rich, honest chocolate with a desire to help others, Tara launched Refuge Chocolate – a social enterprise chocolate brand that would donate profits and amplify the voices of those affected by modern slavery.

Every bar, every bag, every melt was created with the idea that chocolate could be a force for good.

Refuge began as a small batch producer of handmade hot chocolate in Northern Ireland, but it quickly gained a loyal following of customers who believed in great taste with greater purpose.

A New Chapter

Today, Refuge Chocolate is proudly owned by the Magee family, who share Tara’s vision and values. We’re committed to growing the business while staying true to its roots:
